Platform
Expansion, Communication, and Chapter Affairs Department
- Have certain agents work specifically in expansion and others in chapter affairs and communication
- Assign each expansion agent to a certain area so that they will get to know the specific circumstances facing chapters in that area (transportation issues, financial constraints, etc.)
- Strengthen relationship between ECCAD agents and Chapter Presidents by assigning each chapter affairs/communication agent a list of chapters that they will consistently work with throughout the year
- Each list will consist of well-established chapters and newer chapters so that all agents will have a fairly equal workload (it is usually more difficult to reach newer Chapter Presidents)
Mayors and Vice Mayors
- Encourage the Mayors and Vice Mayors to travel around their regions to schools that currently do not have chapters
- Make a power point presentation that the Mayors and Vice Mayors can present during their school visits
- Form working relationships between the expansion agents for each region and the regional Mayors and Vice Mayors
- Give Mayors and Vice Mayors a more active role in the activities of their regions
Directors
- Appoint an effective Tennessee Valley Regional Director and work closely with them on expansion in TN, KY, and WV.
- Create a position for a Director in the Central Ohio area to work on expansion there
- Consult current Chapter Presidents in Columbus to find someone to appoint to that position
Inter-Chapter Communication
- Make a map of all the chapters in the ORV and make it accessible to all JSAers so that chapters are aware of what chapters are around them
- Encourage chapters that are close to each other to host events together, from social events, to debates, to fund raisers, to mini-cons
Transportation
- Using map of ORV chapters, suggest possible car/bus pooling routes for chapters to cut down on transportation costs
ORV Website
- Continue this year’s push to encourage people to utilize the ORV website
- Post helpful resources (contact lists, fund raising information, debate procedures, etc.)
- Regularly update with announcements
- Create an ORV forum to encourage chapters to communicate and share ideas
Teacher Advisers and School Administration
- Contact all the Chapter Presidents to discuss any issues they may be having with their Teacher Adviser or school administration
- Call TAs or administration at the beginning of the year as necessary to discuss the issue with them and work to find a solution
Fund Raising
- Compile a list of fund raisers that chapters throughout the ORV have tried with tips and suggestions
- Make this list available to everyone in the ORV by sending it to Chapter Presidents and posting it on the ORV website
- Contact all Chapter Presidents to discuss their fund raising goals for the following year and develop a plan with them that would be most effective for their individual chapter circumstances
Activism
- Find an activism project that can be extended to a State-wide effort, e.g. raising money to buy nets to prevent the spread of malaria in Africa
- Encourage chapters to get involved in their communities as well through service projects
Debates
- Work closely with next year’s Director of Debate to ensure a high quality of debate at conventions
- Send out a monthly debate topic, debate brief, and list of links to resources to Chapter Presidents
Mini-Conventions
- Create additional incentives for chapters to host mini-cons, e.g. discounts from convention fees
